I started Center Psychotherapy in January 2010 after seventeen years of work as a clinician, educator and evaluator. I have thoughtfully built a therapeutic space to hold my work in fostering healing and growth for individuals. I strongly believe that a safe, predictable and comfortable setting is the first crucial step in establishing a framework for effective treatment.
The physical space of Center Psychotherapy incorporates and reflects my eclectic and child-centered approach to treatment. It is both child and adult friendly with carefully selected art supplies, a sand tray and sensorimotor equipment to aid in the safe exploration of our body-based needs for rhythm, self-regulation and sensory exploration.

Art Therapy
Art and art making engages all of our senses. Art therapy uses the sensory, kinesthetic, perceptual, affective, symbolic, cognitive and creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the properties involved in artistic self-expression help people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.

EMDR
EMDR is a psychotherapy approach pioneered by Francine Shapiro. It contains elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR can be quite effective in trauma treatment.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a method pioneered by Ogden, Minton and Pain that integrates sensorimotor processing with cognitive and emotional processing in the treatment of trauma. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy uses the mindful tracking of body sensations, rather than cognition or emotion, as a primary entry point in processing trauma.
